Although I did not think so at first, the introduction of interactive industries in TRS2004 has proved to be hugely useful. For rolling stock builders it means there no longer need to be separate models for empty and loaded wagons, while for players it can add a sense of purpose to the in-game activities. After releasing my first wagon (the BBA) without industry support I decided that all my later models would add this functionality, and I set about learning the procedures. Looking at my list of started and planned projects, two thoughts occured to me. One was that I would have to build at least some of the industries and products myself. The second was that most of my models could play their part in a larger process. For example, I had iron-ore tipplers, limestone hoppers, steel and coil wagons and car carriers. I started drawing up a plan for a series of linked industries and products that would utilise my wagons, initially covering the stages in the manufacture of cars from raw material to dealerships. |

TYind industries |
The beginning! As I was building wagons that could carry steel slabs or coils the logical place to start was with a rolling mill that consumed the former (on the nearer track) and dispatched the latter (far track). Attachments were added to the mesh to show the contents of each queue stacked alongside. |

TYind industries |
A pair of travelling cranes have been added (not yet textured) and animated so that they appear to be shifting the products to and from the stacking area. Work has also started on some road vehicles to move the items 'off-stage', although exactly how this will be achieved is not yet decided. The ground is raised to rail-height and rail-only track is used to give the impression of track embedded in concrete. |

TYind industries |
The cranes and lorries have been detailed and textured (the railings and ladders use opacity maps), and the animations finalised. Still required are additional scenic items, an improved 'ground', and some refinements to the triggers and scripting. |

TYind industries |
Although the rolling mill industry is not yet complete, I have used it as the basis for a car factory industry. As with the rolling mill, this will just represent the rail interface area and users will have to add industrial buildings of their choice to complete the picture. As can be seen, the coil handling crane has been retained, now modified to bring coils in rather than send them out. The other track has a car-loading ramp made to suit the Cartic-4 and Procar-80 wagon models. Once again the queues are shown in the staging area. As this adds considerably to the poly count, a simpler version may be added later that omits or reduces this. The only major problem has been getting the car-carrying trains to stop at the right place, and I could find no other end-loading industries to crib from. |

TYind industries |
Although not part of the TYind masterplan, another product was created based on the Y25C bogies built for the bardon hoppers. This was highly detailed so incorporated LOD, and had additional bearing point detail and wheel chocks. The image here shows two of the bogies loaded onto a continental flat wagon. For British use, a Lowmac or Bogie Bolster D would be ideal. Not yet released. |

TYind industries |
With the release of the limestone-carrying PGA hopper wagon towards the end of June 2007, I now had all the rail rolling stock required for my original TYind masterplan. The plan itself had been expanded to include a car-carrying lorry, and I produced this diagram to show how the pieces fitted together. As can be seen, a total of 9 industries is envisaged, so I decided it was high time to press on with these. However, after a few days of modelling a limestone loader based on the one at Redmire, I realised I still need to develop my scripting skills. So I did my usual trick of shunting the project into a siding for now! |
11/06/2008

TYind industries |
I decided to release the Y25 bogie product, and also found a more appropriate wagon to carry it in the form of the BR Conflat wagon included in TRS2006. |

TYind industries |
Although still requiring a lot of detailing work, I released test versions of my first two industries to the UKTrainz forum community today, asking for feedback on the operation and scripting. Unfortunately this almost coincided with the release of Trainz Classics 3 and most people were rather preoccupied by the latter! |

| Star ratings: |
These are my own personal appraisals of each model, based on the quality of the mesh and texture, the features, and the realism/accuracy of the complete model. |
 |
1 star. Poor. Inaccurate mesh and/or texture |
 |
4 stars. Almost perfect |
 |
2 stars. Adequate |
 |
5 stars. Unimprovable! |
 |
3 stars. Good |
 |
Not rated. Applies to my own models! |

| Trainz versions: |
These indicate the lowest version of Trainz that an item will work with. For example, an item with version number 2.0 will work in any version of Trainz from 2004 onwards. Note that the version numbers are taken from the config file of the main item. The version numbers for dependencies may be different, resulting in the item having a higher requirement. |
