| Arriva London's Clapton Garage has had quite an interesting history. Opened in 1909 it housed trams and later trolleybuses, and was initially named Hackney (which is more accurate given its location) but was renamed to Clapton in 1950 to avoid confusion with the other Hackney Bus Garage. It was later closed, then re-opened as a minibus outstation before being restored to full operation as the London bus network grew. It is now one of very few London bus garages to only operate a single type, having an allocation of 90 LT-class 'New Bus for London'/'New Routemaster' double-deckers for use on trunk routes 38, 73 and 253. It also two Vauxhall Combo vans for engineering support, although the scarcity of sightings seems to suggest that they are not called out very often. On 23rd March 2026, both vans were parked in the garage, with FL23JCZ shown here. |
