Bus service inspectors and route controllers have made use of several generations of estate cars and light vans, all of which were painted red. Many also featured roof-mounted, illuminated roundels as seen here on 2046F, a Ford Escort 1300 Estate new in 1977. Note the extra pair of wing mirrors.
