The earliest change to the BAA/BAB fleet was the recoding of wagons fitted with 'kinky' beams for coil traffic as BKA/BKB, but all had reverted to BAA/BAB coding by 1986. From the 1990s onwards there was a proliferation of new codes to cover various modifications. Wagons in this range have at times carried codes BCA, BKA (re-issue), BSA, BXA, BYA and BZA.
