Vehicle 895B JXC340 Bedford KD Truck It will have been fitted to tow the Westminster type canteen trailer used at Hayes that is pictured in the Kim Rennie LTSV book. That was most likely to be no.71, which was officially listed as being at Chingford in 1943. Clive G 13/01/2023
Vehicle 871B KLB995 Bedford KD Truck The Kim Rennie LTSV book has a photo of a Westminster type canteen trailer at Hayes with the registration number of 871B fixed to the rear. So this would be the reason for it being equipped to tow at Hounslow Garage in April 1959.There it replaced 895B which had also been fitted to tow. The trailer was most likely no.71 which was officially listed as being at Chingford in 1943. Clive G 13/01/2023
Vehicle 865B JXC344 Bedford KD Truck I suggest this was licensed to tow in June 1956 for a Dennis fire pump trailer kept at Dalston Garage which may have been used for cleaning the Minories bus station. When seen by myself in 1959 that carried the registration number of 865B, which was by then in store at Hounslow. Clive G 13/01/2023
Vehicle 862B JXN500 Bedford KD Truck I suggest this was never a 'towing truck' but was just 'licensed to tow'. There was a Dennis fire pump trailer kept at Dalston Garage which may have been used for cleaning the Minories bus station. When seen by myself in 1959 that carried the registration number of 865B which had replaced 862B in June 1956. Clive G 13/01/2023

I dont believe the MC numbers were painted on the chassis until the early sixties. I searched in vain for identification when spotting till about 1963 without seeing them. But of course they also had body numbers allocated, so I imagine they would be located inside somewhere, but I dont know where! Clive G 07/01/2023

The triangular panel also featured on the offside and I suspect it may have been for a bar to support a tarpaulin to cover the staircase. See https://www.flickr.com/photos/rtw501/52023149955. Also visible in both photos are additional (and larger) drainage slots cut in both sides at upper deck floor level, which also seem to be a later change. Finally, in the photo here, the front nearside window is uncovered. Others seem to have had this plated (or covered) over. Thomas Young 29/11/2022

Different photos of both 972J and 969J show them with and without adverts. I suspect those might all be for National Savings, but they're not all clear enough to see. What may be unique with 972J is the addition of that triangular topped panel on the upper deck above the entrance. It did not have it when first converted so I wonder what that was all about. Vehicle 354Y HX176 Millar Tractor Although shown on contemporary LT documents as being Miller Tractors, the six vehicles (354Y, 355Y, 356Y and pre-1939 numbers 137, 139 and 142) were actually made by Millars. Thanks to Clive for spotting this. Thomas Young 21/11/2022
Vehicle 337V BYE517 Raleigh 2-cylinder Tricycle I believe this may actually be 337V as that is described by JCG in 1940 as being this type of vehicle but carrying registration BYE517 (rather than BYE157). BY517 is a Croydon registration and would seem like yet another error, so maybe this one should be removed?) (This note was originally posted against the record of un-numbered vehicle BY517. That record has now been deleted as it was shown to actually be the same vehicle as 337V BYE517) Clive G 18/11/2022

Vehicle 337V BYE517 Raleigh 2-cylinder Tricycle The Flicker link photo is not this vehicle at all. That one is a pedal tricycle that was stored in Merton Garage as late as 1959. Vehicle JXC354 Mercury Truck There were persistent rumors this had a petrol engine. My examination showed no evidence of it. A single row of batteries lay across the back of the cab area from below the seat, and there was another battery on the floor near the steering wheel column. 'MCC Electric' was printed on a small metal plate in the cab area. I believe the confusion lay with non-LT MLL476 a petrol engine version with longer wheelbase from 1951 now preserved

Vehicle 1281F 579EYU Ford Thames Trader Breakdown Tender Although shown on Variation Sheets and Registers as being at Hainault from 1964 until at least October 1975, other documents (and personal observations) suggest it was actually based at Ealing Common continually between July 1964 and January 1978 at least. Vehicle 1493AS VLW618G Austin J4 Van Was this van really white? All other LT Austin J vans (including the one this replaced) were grey. Notably, number 1492B was a white vehicle, so I wondered if this was a recording slip-up. However, the photo found on-line certainly looks lighter than the standard grey livery. Which leads to the question why was this van white?... Thomas Young 14/10/2022
Vehicle 1493AS VLW618G Austin J4 Van Photo at https://thetransportlibrary.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=24754. Marked as unknown, the location appears to be the side yard at Victoria (GM) garage, and the van has a 'Radio Control' notice in the windscreen. Thomas Young 14/10/2022
Vehicle 19A JBP392P Leyland Sherpa Van Registration correction. A photo found on-line suggests this van was JBP392P (a Portsmouth mark) rather than JPB392P, a Guildford mark. xPB marks were used by LCBS but the xBP one ties in with the van being supplied by Wadham Stringer, and is backed-up by DVLA records. It seems the error originated with LCBS's own documentation, the variation sheets showing JPB. Thomas Young 14/10/2022
Vehicle 19A JBP392P Leyland Sherpa Van Photo at https://thetransportlibrary.co.uk/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=1433. Although marked as unknown, the location looks like somewhere around Baker Street. The van has a windscreen label referring to 'xxx 1976 xx Exhibition', so this was presumably after the 16th May 1976 LT Gala Day at Syon Park, which both LCBS 19A and 19F attended. Vehicle 205C (TP) Leyland Cub SKZ1 Rescue Truck In a report produced by J C Gilham in 1939 this is listed by its original number 220 as allocated to Hendon (trolleybus depot later known as Colindale). In his 1940 report he notes it was transferred from Hendon to Charlton Works by 10/37 and repainted dark green.
A photo of it in later years in use as a red rescue truck at Fulwell shows it with two panels on the nearside of the tilt instead of one. (I have not seen an offside view)

Vehicle 953B KYY998 Bedford-Scammell OSS Low Loader A high metal tilt with a forward facing window was fitted to the front of the trailer when I first saw it in the latter half of 1959. Kim Rennie's book pictures it as delivered, without the tilt, but refers to its later use transporting the tubular bus shelters. This would explain the conversion and suggest the inclusion of a rear facing bench for the crew in similar fashion to shelter carriers 921LT and 1018J. Clive G 05/10/2022
